Insurance Claim Assistance

We handle the paperwork. You get your car back right.

Filing a claim shouldn't feel like a second job. Our team manages the entire insurance process from first call to final delivery — estimates, photos, supplements, adjuster negotiations, and rental coordination. Here's exactly how it works when you bring your vehicle to Auto Body Shoppe.

1

Report the Claim to Your Insurance Company

Call your insurer (or the at-fault driver's insurer) and report the accident. Give the facts — date, location, vehicles involved. You'll receive a claim number. That number is the key to everything that follows, so write it down. When they ask where the vehicle will be repaired, tell them: Auto Body Shoppe, 5 Brookside Ave, Caldwell, NJ 07006. Remember — under New Jersey law, that choice is yours.

2

Bring Us the Vehicle and Your Claim Number

Drive in or have the vehicle towed to our Caldwell facility — we can coordinate towing if the car isn't drivable. Bring your claim number, insurance card, and registration. We photograph and document all damage, including damage that's easy to miss on a quick parking-lot appraisal: kinked reinforcement bars, cracked brackets, and hidden structural issues behind the bumper covers.

3

We Write the Estimate and Deal With the Adjuster

Our estimators prepare a comprehensive repair plan based on manufacturer repair procedures — not on what's cheapest for the insurer. We submit it directly to your insurance company, host their appraiser at our shop if they want to inspect, and negotiate line by line until the estimate reflects a complete, safe repair.

4

Supplements: When Hidden Damage Is Found

Once teardown begins, additional damage is often discovered that no one could see from the outside. This is completely normal. We document the new findings with photos, submit a supplement to your insurer, and get it approved before proceeding. You don't pay for this process — it's part of how a proper claim works, and we handle all of it.

5

Repair, Refinish, and Quality Control

Your vehicle is repaired to factory specifications: structural pulls verified on computerized measuring equipment, panels refinished with digitally color-matched waterborne paint, and every repair inspected before reassembly. We keep you updated throughout so you're never left wondering where your car stands.

6

Delivery, Deductible, and Warranty

At pickup, we walk the vehicle with you. If a deductible applies to your claim, you pay it to us directly (the insurer subtracts it from their payment — that's how every claim works, at every shop). You leave with a clean, safe car backed by our lifetime warranty on workmanship.

Quick Answers About Your Claim

Who pays the deductible on an auto body repair claim?

Your deductible only applies when the claim runs through your own policy (collision coverage). If the other driver was at fault and the claim runs through their insurance, there is typically no deductible for you at all.

Do I need the insurance check before repairs can start?

No. Once we have an approved estimate and your authorization, we order parts and schedule the work. Payment logistics are handled between the shop and the insurer as the repair progresses.

Will insurance pay for a rental car while my car is repaired?

If your policy includes rental coverage, or the at-fault driver's policy is paying, we coordinate the rental pickup and return around your repair schedule so you are never without transportation.

Can the insurance company force me to use aftermarket parts?

Insurers often write estimates with aftermarket or salvage parts to save money. Depending on your policy and your vehicle's age, you may have the right to insist on OEM parts. We always advocate for the safest, factory-correct parts for your repair. Read more on our Your NJ Rights page.

Do I need to get three estimates in New Jersey?

No. That is a common myth. You only need one estimate from the shop of your choice. New Jersey law does not require multiple estimates before an insurer processes your claim.
